"A palace walk and a major Korean painter's retrospective" Walk along the Deoksugung stone-wall road and you arrive at the MMCA Deoksugung, inside the palace grounds. Right now it's showing "Lee Daiwon: Nothing Here Makes You Sad" (《당신을 슬프게 하는 것은 하나도 없다》), the first large-scale museum survey of the painter's work. Lee studied law but taught himself to paint, and later became president of Hongik University. The show follows 70 years of his work across four galleries. In Gallery 4, huge canvases more than 5 meters wide fill your view with orchards and fields painted in bold, bright brushstrokes. We recommend going through the galleries in order, from 1 to 4, to see how his style changes over time.
